How can public media stations leverage their airwaves and expertise to empower youth journalism? This spring KQED worked with students from 10 Bay Area high schools for the first Youth Takeover, a week of dedicated airtime for youth-produced content. During our panel session KQED staff and youth contributors will share the process of creating the Takeover and crafting stories in the classroom, the impact on students and our audience, and opportunities for public media programming.
Chanelle Ignant is KQED's youth media specialist. She has worked with various Bay Area youth organizations to promote media literacy and skill building, and is an independent media maker.
