Lucha Libre & Afromexican Consciousness

How does one affirm their Black identity in a national context where afrodescendancy is consistently othered? This session explores a design inquiry that contributes nuance to a narrative about Black consciousness in Mexico — with Afromexicans as the primary storytellers — through the vernacular of lucha libre as metaphor. Participants will experience the design workshop practices employed, view the media generated, and practice how to leverage these practices to engage complex themes of their own.
