How can people affected by the criminal justice system carry out our own research to build power and effect systems change? The Safe Return Project started as a participatory action research project and over 7 years has grown into a powerful, independent organization led by formerly incarcerated people. Along the way, Safe Return has brought about institutional change like defeating a proposed jail expansion and passing a ban the box policy. Come hear the story, key principles and strategies.
