The internet is under attack. In response, a grassroots group of activists is fighting companies like Comcast and Verizon for our rights to connect and communicate. Come learn about this distributed organizing effort. We will share the messy complications and beautiful insights of this work, including: centering race within distributed organizing, developing a leaderful organizing practice and running a big project in collaboration with partners. You’ll leave with practical tips and resources.

Mary Alice Crim is field director at Free Press and Free Press Action Fund where she fights for everyone’s rights to connect and communicate. She runs campaigns, sets national field strategy and supervises organizers. She has been organizing for Net Neutrality for a decade and is currently co-leading Team Internet. Mary Alice has extensive experience running national conferences, events, trainings and webinars including the National Conference for Media Reform. She chairs the board of Northampton Community Television. Mark Stanley is the communications and operations director for Demand Progress, a progressive advocacy organization with over two million members that seeks to protect the democratic character of the internet — and use it to make government accountable and contest concentrated corporate power. At Demand Progress, Mark’s work focuses on digital rights issues, including net neutrality. Previously, Mark worked at the Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) as campaign and communications strategist. At CDT, his work focused on creating campaigns and coalitions to fight for civil liberties in the digital age.
