Holistic Design Strategist + Mental Health Advocate
Baltimore, MD
Denise Shanté Brown, MA, is a holistic design strategist and mental health advocate unapologetically prioritizing the wellbeing of Black women. As a graduate of MICA's Social Design program and current Robert W. Deutsch Social Design Fellow, her collaborative practice addresses mental illness bias and discrimination and builds compassionate interventions for connection, wellbeing, and social transformation. Personally connected to the lived experiences of depression, she co-designs transformative possibilities with Black women for inner and outer peace in culturally relevant ways. Denise sees problems as design opportunities for equity and justice and believes that design has the power to transform how we care for ourselves and disrupt oppressive healthcare models that impact the quality of our wellbeing. She has received training in Mental Health First Aid, Emotionally Intelligent Leadership, Social Justice-Informed Mental Health, Trauma-Informed Care, and Compassionate Activism and continues to help realize the wellbeing of Black women, creatively and holistically.
