Didi Adi

Detroit REPRESENT and Black LGBTQIA Migrant Project (BLMP)
Didi Adi is a womxnist writer based in Detroit, MI. Although she recently moved to Detroit from Tejas, she feels at home in Detroit and is glad to be connecting with indigenous Black and Brown Detroiters. Since moving to Detroit, Didi has primarily organized with the Detroit REPRESENT! Media Collective, Detroit Radical Childcare Collective and Brick and Mortar Housing Collective. She has also written for Nandi's Knowledge Newsletter and Ilera Apothecary. After attending the first Black LGBTQIA+ Migrant Project (BLMP) convening in Oakland, CA, Didi has been a huge supporter of BLMP's work as someone who had considered seeking asylum in the U.S on the grounds of persecution for being a West African sexual minority and as someone who has felt alienated in most West African spaces in the U.S. Didi believes it is time for Africans in Africa and Africans in the diaspora to collectively realize and acknowledge the imperial and colonial influence behind the cis-hetero patriarchal hierarchy that is plaguing African communities. She firmly believes BLMP's organizing efforts (in collaboration with other African/Black LGBTQIA+ collectives) will ultimately lead to these decolonial realizations.
