Johanna James

Womanist Working Collective

Johanna D. James is a transplant from St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. In seeking a supportive environment where physical, mental, and emotional health was prioritized, she joined the Womanist Working Collective. Her focus is on creating paths for recovery that reduce the impact of the many social injustices faced by communities of color. She is committed to uplifting black women and fostering their wellbeing through self-empowerment, self-reliance and self-care. Johanna intentionally strives to practice divestment from social systems that have historically dehumanized and oppressed people of color and continuously seeks ways to raise solidarity amongst Black communities of the Diaspora that speak specifically to the need for decolonization and reconstruction. Her goal is to build new practices while honoring the work of the ancestors and past movements of liberation.
