Rico is an MD/PhD candidate in the Institute of Communications Research and the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Chicago. Their major focus of study is in the social and cultural studies of science, medicine, and technology, with minor areas in Latinx studies, American Indian & Indigenous studies, and gender & women's studies. They were one of the core organizers of the Healing Justice Practice Space/Track at the 2015 AMC as well as the 2015 INCITE! COV4 conference. Their research focuses on medicalization, indigeneity, and racialization within the context of multicultural liberalism, colonialism, and diaspora.
